Murray Cod: Maccullchella peelii peelii Other names: Cod, Codfish. Needs large dams of an acre or bigger in size to stock large numbers. Generally we put a couple of cod in mixed boxes of other species. This is due to their territorial requirements and the fighting that results from over crowding. This fish is considered to be the ultimate fish to catch and eat by most Australians that fish inland waters. It grows slowly in dams till the dam size limits growth. Eating qualities: Excellent meat.Angling: Good to very good Aquaculture potential; The Cod has all the prerequisites for aquaculture. Thich is beening realised right now in recirculating systems. Sale area: North of the Divide.

Estuary Perch: Macquaria Colonorum Also known as: Perch, Gippsland Perch, Bass.(Hopkins) A little known fish at this stage, but we have evidence that they grow well in farm dams, and fish well. This fish has been refered to as the Barra of the South, due to its aggressive fighting on the hook, its not uncommon for the fish to jump and tail across the top of the water like Marlin. Angling: One of the best fighting fish in Victoria. Eating qualities: Excellent meat. Aquaculture potential: To be researched, but should be up with Bass with the potential of better growth rates. Sale Area: Gippsland only.
