| In recent years Australians have been witnessing a gradual and distressing loss of civil and religious liberties. In a political sense we have moved increasingly towards the centralisation and concentration of power. This runs counter to the central safeguards of democracy, namely the division and separation of powers. Symptomatic of this creeping concentration of legislative power was earlier government legislation seeking to control and suppress the electronic media, and thus freedom of information. Fortunately, this was overturned by the High Court. In concert with this has come increasing legislation to further empower government spawned tribunals intent on enforcing "politically correct" views and behaviour, to the point where the major parties are now largely captive to special interest minority groups, who now draft Australia's political and social agenda. This anti-conservative and anti-Christian humanist agenda is further entrenched through the multitude of United Nations conventions and declarations. All of which have been imposed on Australians without our sanction or endorsement. This is all occurring at a time when many Australians accept the premise that politicians can lie to us and not be held accountable. Such developments should be of concern to all Australians. It calls for a nationwide response by every concerned Australian. What is desperately needed is a reassertion of traditional Christian values and views in both society and in politics. | ||
