| REFLECTIONS OF “GLOBAL CONSULTATION ON WORLD EVANGELISATION |
By John Bradford M.P. My week at G.C.O.W.E. in South Korea enabled me to crystalise the vision I have had for Australia for many years. My vision has been that Australia should truly become the “Great Southland of the Holy Spirit.” – a nation which is truly God’s country in both origin and destiny. At G.C.O.W.E. I was able to hear stories of phenomenal church growth in many countries. Some South American countries are experiencing 70,000 Christian conversions a day! Many of these countries now have committed Christian leaders. What about Australia? There are many positive signs. Recent figures indicate that after a continuing decline for decades in people identifying themselves as 'Christian', this trend has now been arrested and reversed. Within the last two months in Brisbane, two separately organised 'Inter-Denominational' Christian events have attracted gatherings in excess of 10,000 people daily for five days at a time, with crowds peaking at over 15,000 on several occasions. Until now, Christian gatherings of this size have been unheard of in Australia. Before departing for G.C.O.W.E. 95 1 was challenged by a book I was given which told the story of William Wilberforce. I was moved by the influence one man and his small group of colleagues and counsellors had on England at that time. Their efforts were strategically complemented by the preaching of the great John Wesley. In fact there are many examples in Biblical times and throughout modem history where only a few faithful men turned the tide of history- some for bad, but many for good. At this moment in our history I firmly believe that even with only a few faithful men history can be altered in this Nation for good but, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit (God's Spirit) says the LORD." (Zech 4:6). It seems to me that the ideal model for revival is a partnership between Christian and Political leaders. This partnership will change our Nation! With our daily prayer crying out, "Oh LORD, move
upon the 'Heart of Australia' with your love and compassion. Forgive us
our sins and heal this land!" and coupled with faithful preaching
and witnessing of the Gospel, I believe unity and a sense of purpose will
return to this Nation as God rapidly softens and changes the hearts of
individuals.
An inquiry into accusations against the Creation Science
Foundation and other creationists by an independent investigative committee
has revealed a trail of misrepresentation and distortion by anti-creationists. Members of the inquiry committee were unanimous in their decision that the accusations made by Professor Ian Plimer and other anti--creationists were false and not supported by the evidence. In his recent book "Telling Lies For God" Professor Plimer, head of the Department of Geology at Melbourne University, had made a considerable number of unsubstantiated accusations against the Creation Science Foundation and other conservative Christian bodies. In total disregard of the principles and ethics of the Australian Press Council, the mainstream Australian media has not only championed this anti-creationist cause (and misinformation), but presented a "wall of silence" whenever evidence was presented exposing the distortion of facts engaged in by the anti-creationist defenders of "science" and "truth". All this has clearly revealed the tragic loss of objectivity and professional integrity of the Australian media, with few exceptions. This has also sadly revealed the extent of the "naivety"
of certain Christian leaders, who have been manipulated and used by Plimer
and the anti-creationist lobby in pursuit of their atheistic anti-supernatural
agenda. The anti-religious humanist agenda of the this lobby has been
well known to more discerning Christians for some time. And it came as
no surprise that Professor Ian Plimer finally received the "Humanist
of the Year Award" for his efforts as a member of the Humanist Society
of Victoria in helping to create society "free from supernatural
beliefs."
