PARADIGMS - FINITE & INFINITE

PARADIGMS.

A paradigm represents a broader encompassing worldview. It is the larger framework of reference into which certain ideas and events can be unified and assimilated. A paradigm shift is said to have occurred when a complete change in thought occurs. An example of differing "paradigms" is the theistic vs atheistic worldwiews. Each represents a distinct broader framework of reference, a paradigm.

RELIGIOUS PARADIGMS.

The famous French philosopher, Jean Paul Sarte, made a profound statement concerning the crisis of human knowledge and learning. Said Sarte;

"A finite point without an infinite reference point is meaningless and absurd."

What Sarte meant was that from our finite limited human perspective we could never arrive at a picture of reality, or paradigm, big enough to provide ultimate answers. We can never see the whole picture. Our understanding will always be finite. Limited by current available knowledge, the limitations of the human mind, the time available to evaluate available knowledge in our limited lifespan. Says Sarte, from this "finite" perspective we can never know the ultimate meaning of life and existance .

According to Sarte, what what is needed is an "infinite" reference point. This alone would provide the ultimate big picture. Without such a divine "infinite reference point" we can never be ultimately sure of any conclusions we make about life and existance. It all amounts to only an educated guess, based on points of view that are always changing and shifting with time. Todays grand insights will be tomorrows refuse. As noted by Sarte, in the final analysis, our finite insights are "meaningless and absurd".

Unless we can establish that we do posses the "infinite" reference point, communicated to humanity from a divine source, then we will never have the big picture. In short, what we need is a divine or god given perspective. All else is meaningless and absurd, says sarte.

Fully 60% of the human brain is given to communication. We posess communication attributes far in excess of any other creature. Human beings are at the very pinacle of the language triangle. It is not unreasonable to conclude that if the "source" of these communication skills existed, it would be humanity that would be the principle recripient of such communication. The question arises as to whether such a "source" exists, and whether these is any credible evidence suggesting that such a "divine source" has in fact communicated to humanity. Only then do we have the essential "infinite reference point" needed to understand the meaning of life and existence - That is the real issue. The ultimate question!

THE "FINITE" PARADIGM
The vast majority of beliefs and religions are based on a "finite" human perspective. Human beings seeking to understand the cosmos and life from current insights and our limited viewpoint, which, as pointed out by Sarte, is in the final analysis "meaningless and absurd".
THE "INFINITE" PARADIGM

Of all the beliefs and religious system in the world only a very few claim to posses the divine revelation, or "infinite" reference point, needed to provide insight into the ultimate nature and meaning of existence. Among the major religions claiming to possess "special revelation" or communication from a divine source are Judeaism, Christianity, and Islam. A few individuals, such as Mormon founder, Joseph Smith, and new age guru, Neil Donald Walsch (Conversations with God), have also claimed to have 'communicated with god'.

EVALUATING & TESTING PARADIGMS

Such "infinite reference point" claims must be tested and objectively evaluated. How valid are such claims of divine revelation? How objective is the evidence in support of such claims? And what is the probability of any of these these claims being TRUE. Evaluating the claims of "divine revelation" is an objective of this web site.

You be the judge!
